Island of Naxos - Post tour
Day 1
After visiting busier destinations in Greece, our final stop was the restful Naxos Island.
A chance to totally unwind!
Naxos is best-known for its beautiful beaches and fantastic food – much of it grown locally.
From Santorini, we took a taxi to the bustling Port of Athinios where we were herded, (seriously, they are in a hurry and you had better get moving!) onto the ferry!

Naxos Temple of Apollo – Portara
Arriving in Naxos you are greeted by the Temple of Apollo-Portara.
This huge marble gate is the island's main landmark and another tribute to the god Apollo!

Day 2 - Beach time!
Agios Prokopios Beach is 6 km from Naxos town. We hopped on a local bus to take us there.
It has golden, HOT sand and the water is crystal clear.
There are comfortable, shaded cabanas to use.
We practically had the beach to ourselves!
There are restaurants and a food market close by so there are amenities available.
Walking down the beach we weren't surprised to see a small area of nude bathers, as this is very common in Europe.

A lovely evening in Naxos!
We enjoyed exploring the charming, picturesque streets of Naxos.
Much less busy than other destinations and the food was fabulous!

Day 3 Last Day in Naxos and Greece!
We spent the morning and early afternoon on the beach and then boarded a ferry to Piraeus Port, Athens!
We got on the wrong ferry! But, Deryl quickly asked a worker and she hustled us down the ramp just as it was about to go up! Whew! Don't know which island we would have ended up on! Another adventure! Back to Athens to our same hotel and that amazing nighttime view! I guess we came full circle on our Greece trip, Beginning and ending with the glorious Parthenon! |
May all the paths you travel bring you joy and adventure!
