We explored a little park with War Monuments, saw a little school with a tiny playground and a brightly painted church.
Our Favorite Path - Old Town Karadmyli!
A Walk in the Past
We set out early in the morning to hike to Agia Sophia.
A short walk from main street took us to a path, YAY, that led to the main gateway of the mystical setting of Old Kardamyli.
We were all alone at the site so we really felt like we had stepped back into the past!

The Path to Agio Sophia!
Church of Agia Sophia
|
We continued to follow the path, past Old Town Kardamyli to the Church of Agia Sophia. It is a picturesque hike following rather vague trail markers! In fact, we missed the turn to the church and ended up hiking a long way past but we turned around and eventually found the steps up to the church. The little Byzantine church of Agia Sophia is a very picturesque. It was technically closed but we were able to peek inside as workers were busy restoring the interior. |
After hiking back to Kardamyli, we grabbed a snack and drink at a coffee shop where all the locals go.
This family-run shop even had a playpen for the kids! |

Time for a swim!
We followed another path down to the marina beach where we enjoyed a cold swim in clear blue waters, and dodged the sea urchins (glad to have our water shoes!).
Some local boys were fishing and they showed us the large eel they had just caught!
